Note to #Bluesky Readers: Some Posting Changes Here
Too little interest with little to no returns for the effort
I would like to start by thanking all those who follow me on Bluesky who’ve liked and shared my posts. My intent in curating the news every day has been to provide a quick way for people to make sure they do not miss out on any of the news about what Musk and Trump is doing.
The current White House occupants have literally been flooding the zone - to the point where it takes me from 03:00am PST to 11:00 to midnight to curate a full day’s worth of news. In my humble opinion, there is no way for even the most news-aware consumer to achieve this level of information on their own through normal media consumption with the mainstream media priorities in fully reporting the news. What one finds in one outlet isn’t necessarily what the next two media organizations will focus readers on, if at all. That is where I thought I would come in.
Looking at the stats for my daily news posts, the vast majority of the engagement I’ve been able to garner mostly comes from Substack itself. Most days, my news post for that day gets one, maybe two views directly from any of the many posts and reposts I make on Bluesky. My opinion pieces have garnered more views. but I only write those two to three times a week.
Maybe it is due to lack of interest in reading and viewing in the running post format of my daily Things Musk (and Trump) Did posts, or maybe it is just the saturation level at Bluesky. Asking for reposts has yielded very few.
While I have a relatively good number of follows with tens of thousands of followers, the number of times I’ve garnered a repost from someone with 50K followers on up has been a rarity. I’ve been included in a couple of starter packs and my following has stagnated since.
Either way, this is something I can’t fight in any kind of way. Promoting my posts requires a budget - something I do not have. Spending more time on Bluesky to self-promote would take me away from curation and, I think, would lose me followers for being even more obnoxious than I already am with the repetition of posts.
I had hoped, in time, with a lot of hard work on my part, I would start getting a lot more subscribers to my Substack, with some supporting me at the low, low price of $5 a month. I have two yearly subscribers and two monthly subscribers. I need to do better, if anything, because I need to make sure I have at least a little income to get me through the next four years.
Anyway, to the point of my post… I will post my daily news post to Bluesky as I first publish it, once daily, from now on and hope that people will either remember to check in with me on Substack or, as a result of this post, subscribe to my substack to get an email notification. As for my opinion pieces, I will start paywalling some of the more data and analysis-intensive ones.
Thanking all of you for reading me and hoping to see you at Substack.
