Obeying In Advance: Lessons Some Democrats Always Refuse To Learn
Triangulation 2.0? It may well be back!
Some on the left have already openly said they’re obeying in advance. There is no other way to put it.
At first, there were some murmurs about keeping an open mind even as we were horrified with each announcement of just who Trump was picking for various cabinet positions. That such murmurs would come from someone like Josh Gottheimer, a member of the Problem Solvers Caucus is hardly surprising. He’s always been, essentially, a DINO. There’s no room for him in the GOP so… he’s where he is. There are others like him in the party. The two most notorious ones are Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema, both of whom, thankfully, are no longer in office.
I wrote about some of my disappointments with the progressive wing of the party last week in the following piece.
Worst New Thing? DOGE Progressives!
I was taken aback by some of Rep. Ro Khanna’s skeets on Bluesky over the past month. Here are a couple:
This piece is not necessarily about progressives per se, but a trend of some Democrats who yearn for visibility in a downturn and are going about the wrongest way possible.
Today, I will focus mostly on Ro Khanna. His district includes Silicon Valley.
As you can see, this interview took place a mere 20 days after the election and Khanna was already on board with obeying in advance. If you click on the graphic, you will be taken to Twitter and can watch the interview without logging into Twitter. Twitter has apparently disabled embedded content on other platforms.
But I digress…
Khanna has been a busy bee, giving interview after interview, absolutely everywhere and all at once.
Ro Khanna was interviewed on Kara Swisher’s podcast on December 12.
Then, he went on Twitter to compliment Elon Musk and signal, quite eagerly, his willingness to work with DOGE. That, of course, got Khanna a lukewarm tweet from Musk.
I am hardly the only one who noticed this from Khanna and others. Fetterman’s warm enticements toward Musk are unsurprising, given the fact that Musk did most of his $1 million lotteries in Pennsylvania, cementing long-term affection among blue collar voters there.
Now… Khanna used to sing a totally different tune about Musk. Watch him on CNBC
Here are samplings from people who are disenchanted with Khanna on Bluesky.
Oliver Willis’ is one of the sharpest voices I’ve followed since the old Twitter. He’s with Media Matters for America, a watchdog organization. His latest, on Democrats who are openly making overtures to Trump, is a must-read.
Jay Rosen, NYU professor of journalism, is one of our most important voices. He’s right when he picks this quote from a piece written by Dan Froomkin.
The proof in the pudding comes in this gobsmacking segment on CNN earlier today. I have to admit I haven’t caught my breath since watching it live.
I have been looking at research that has been published recently and plan on writing a piece about the obvious information deficit we suffer from. Still, if a picture is worth a thousand words, how much is *this* one worth? It definitely isn’t your average picture!
Back to Ro Khanna… Could it be he has an exact sense of just how misinformed and under informed America is at the moment? Agree or disagree with him, Khanna is a very smart and well-educated man. He received a Bachelor’s degree in economics, with honors from the University of Chicago (no small school) and has a juris doctor from Yale (no small thing, either).
Without going as far as pegging him as a fraud, could it be that this is what is giving him the impetus to morph from solid progressive to some libertarian-progressive hybrid? Progressives were considered a growing part of the Democratic party. It appears that they are as much a part of the collapse as the rest of it.
Color me very disappointed in this one spawn of Bernie’s. Sadly, he’s not the only one.
